High-tech Solutions for Cow Comfort

Cows can rest on waterbed mattresses in the Precision Dairy Laboratory,  at the Kaposvár Campus of the Hungarian Agricultural and Life Sciences University (MATE). The facility built with 341 million HUF will help to  provide practical training for highly skilled professionals and produce healthier food.

The housing and milking system at the facility greatly supports livestock production decisions by continuously monitoring and analysing the parameters of the milk being milked every quarter.

„This laboratory will allow us to demonstrate and apply in everyday practice modern solutions that are at the cutting edge of agriculture today. Our task is to make students aware of this, to produce professionals who have this knowledge. This is what will make the domestic agricultural sector competitive”,

Dr Csaba Gyuricza, Rector of MATE, said at the ceremony.

In the Precision Dairy Laboratory, state-of-the-art housing technology is used for the comfort of the cows, contributing to an economical, competitive, sustainable operation and the production of safe and healthy food raw materials. The laboratory is part of a HUF 1.3 billion project implemented by MATE together with the Kaposvár-based dairy company Fino-Food Kft.

„We are already seeing the positive effects of this development in the short term. The milk coming from the facility is of a higher quality than before. We are committed to such forward-looking investments, as the data obtained will help us to make good decisions, thus increasing our competitiveness”,

Linda Egyed Szommerné, Managing Director of Fino-Food Ltd., pointed out. In contrast to conventional housing systems, MATE’s Precision Dairy Laboratory that houses 64 cows, allows animals to meet their biological needs in a stress-free environment, according to their own biorhythms, with minimal human resources.

The developments will not stop there. A poultry performance tester and a feed mixing plant will be set up at the MATE Kaposvár Campus in 2024, further strengthening practical training.
