Hungarian IT system integrator company Gloster has won a €15 million (HUF 5.8 billion) contract from BMW to develop industrial software. The project, which will run until 2029, will see Gloster-Minero further develop the German carmaker’s global production management system in three continents.
Gloster-Minero Hungary Kft. has won a €15 million software development contract from BMW in a multi-stage international tender, the preliminary agreement for which was signed on 19 June. The development, which will run until 2029, will not require the recruitment of new workforce and will be carried out by Gloster using its own existing internal resources without the need for any further subcontracting, the company said in a statement. According to the agreement, the parties will adjust the price upwards three times by euro inflation until the end of the contract.
Gloster, traded publicly on the Hungarian Stock Exchange, and a long-standing and stable supplier of automotive software, demonstrates its ability to create value by winning the current upgrade at a price 25 percent higher than the price of a previous project of the same size and length for the same client. As the upgraded software (Demand Calculation Services) is a mission-critical element of BMW’s global manufacturing processes, its continuous operation is essential to the manufacturer’s global supply chain, and significant resources are dedicated to its ongoing development.
The importance of the project is enhanced by the fact that Gloster will also provide BMW with a 7/24 professional software and infrastructure management service from its development centers in Szeged, Budapest and Kecskemét, following a DevOps methodology. The entire product development lifecycle is implemented in an agile methodology. The assignment will be executed by Gloster according to the highest German industry standards, including the special automotive TISAX certification.
The professionalism and profitability of the project will be significantly enhanced by the innovative, self-learning AI-based resource estimation solution of Gloster’s engineers, which is still in the experimental phase. The artificial intelligence built into this solution suggests to the developer – based on previous similar tasks – which software components need to be developed/modified and how to do it in the shortest time.
This is not Gloster’s first high-value foreign order: last November, it won an order worth more than 1 billion HUF from Sony Music, and in June 2022, a development contract worth 600,000 euros was signed with Audi.
